I am happiest when painting directly from nature, particularly in the early morning or late afternoon, when
a magical quality affects the color and light. Being a plein air painter
brings new opportunities and challenges. I often wish the
sun would stay put just a little longer, to get the sparkling lights and
lovely shadows on my canvas. There may be sudden winds, dust storms or rain. I may be
racing the incoming fog to finish a painting. A sense of humor is an asset
when the unexpected happens; such as, the boat I'm painting going out
to sea with the owner, being chased by wild horses while driving my truck through a field, or being stung by bees while painting in the vineyards, "every day is a new adventure".
If you see me painting by the roadside
near my yellow truck,
"Honk," or stop and say "Hi!".
